Hello, We’re Jon & Anne!

We were high school teachers in South Africa, first in Cape Town and subsequently in remote rural, landlocked, areas. Jon became headmaster and Anne a teacher in a start-up private school for rural children, before the end of apartheid.

After 15 years of teaching, we decided to feed our love of travel and sailing and bought a 35’ Bob Perry designed cutter and set out from Knysna, on the southern coast of South Africa, to Cape Town, and then across the Atlantic Ocean. The crossing to Brazil took 30 sailing days (with a couple of stops along the way). By the time we reached the Caribbean, it was time to find work and the next two years were spent as captain and hostess on 50’ catamarans owned by a fledgling charter company.

In October 2004, made our way to the US and found employment as boat cleaners at the Annapolis boat shows. There we met the owners of Annapolis Yacht Sales who employed us to start a branch of the company in Deltaville, Virginia.

In July 2020 we branched out on our own and opened the doors of YaZu Yachting.
