This is an absolutely bullet-proof cruising yacht, built in South Africa, that will take you safely anywhere in the world. This is not a weekend bay cruiser (nothing to stop you from using it that way) but it is designed and built to take on the world’s oceans. The Bongers 39 is a perfect platform for an adventurous couple to fulfil their cruising dreams. The yacht has recently arrived in the US after an Atlantic crossing and is fully set up for cruising with equipment and spares including a dinghy and outboard and a very well designed lithium battery system plus wind and solar charging. The hull and deck are solid fiberglass. Lead fin keel. The bottom is going to need to be stripped and repainted. Bully is a tiller steered boat which makes for a much more sensitive feel to the helm and opens up the cockpit for non sailing activities. The Monitor vane also works more efficiently with a tiller steered yacht.
The first Bongers 39 was originally designed for and raced in the Cape to Rio Race by the Bongers brothers, well known sailors and boatbuilders in South Africa. Over time the design has been modified by the inclusion of a “sugar scoop” on the stern and a revised deck plan and interior layout.
