The Danish-built Dragonfly 28 Sport was designed by Jens Quorning as  a fast, trailerable, cruising trimaran, built with foam sandwich for lightness, large cockpit, sturdy trampolines, centerboard, kick up rudder and spacious interior. It flies along in light or heavy wind and its downwind performance is aided by the use of a Code 0 which can be hoisted from the cockpit and attached to the folding bowsprit. ‘Nice Tri’ is currently in the water in Deltaville, VA.

The open transom gives easy access to the water as well as to the gas tank, the retractable rudder and the 15HP Honda outboard motor which is linked to the tiller.  Mainsheet controls (both gross and fine tuning) in the middle of the cockpit,  with primary winches within easy reach allow for efficient sail handling. The boomvang  control lines attach to the amas to flatten the mainsail.  Safe movement to the bow along the trampolines which can also double as a sunbathing platform for a lazy crew on a day when the wind is low and the sun is out.

The beauty of the Dragonfly 28 is not only its remarkable sailing performance and trailerability, but also its versatility.
1)  With the amas extended, the beam is 21′ 4″, thanks to the simple folding system, the amas can be retracted and the beam is 8′ 4″, so it can fit into a regular slip or onto the trailer, allowing it to be easily moved from one location to another by road.
2) With the centerboard up & the rudder raised, the draft is 16″ and the boat can be easily beached; with the centerboard & rudder down the draft is 5’7″ which allows this boat to point really well and sail fast.
3) No stanchions or lifelines! You can step aboard from the dock or from the beach with ease.
4) The cockpit and interior are comfortable for a family, with 2 ‘cabins’, an enclosed head, comfortable settees and a folding table as well as a small galley and propane cabin heater, you are set for some short-term cruising… or longer term if you are that way inclined.

The current owners of ‘Nice Tri’ have used her for day sailing, so her interior is in fantastic condition and shows like a much newer boat.  They have made some significant upgrades during their ownership (for a full list, see ‘Recent Upgrades’ under Descriptions), these include :
