This 2001 50ft Dufour Atoll 6, is a Philip Briand design. The owner took her to St Martin during the winter of 2021, where he undertook a number of upgrades. They returned to the USA, in June 2021.
The Dufour Atoll 6 is a ‘monomaran’. It has all the features that people like in a catamaran, in a monohull. An integrated cockpit and salon, all on one level, with open space down the middle of the boat, for easy movement. Vertical windows forward give excellent visibility and light. Step down into the 5 Cabins and 4 heads which are arranged in a mirror image.
The storage is phenomenal – under the central cabin sole (engine, tankage etc), under seats, beneath the helm floor and under counters. Each cabin has a large clothes storage locker and double berth. The two aft cabins have en-suite heads.
The rig is fractional with swept-back spreaders, fully battened, classic mainsail and furling genoa. It has a 5’11 draft & a spade rudder, so it sails well and can be taken into anchorages where you would not expect to take a boat of this size.
The current owner of this Atoll 6 bought ‘Buloo’ in 2009 and since then has either replaced or rebuilt anything that needs it. He has cruised the boat up and down the East Coast of the US for approximately 4 months each year and has stored it on the hard for the winter. Foresails are removed and stored for the winter, bottom is sanded and painted each Spring (with top end Woolsey paint – high copper content).
2020 was the exception to that pattern. However, Buloo’s owner returned to the US in January 2021; he sanded and painted the bottom, prepared her for a passage to St Martin and left Deltaville in early February. Buloo was anchored in Marigot Bay, St Martin during which time the owner undertook a number of upgrades. (See below and in the full specifications.)
All upgrades have been done to the highest standards. Buloo has the following equipment and upgrades:
4 x Renogy 100W Solar Panels (2021)
MMPT Solar regulator (2021)
8HP Yamaha Outboard (2021)
