READY TO GO SOUTH.

Grand Danois is a fine example of a shoal draft,  3-cabin, 2-head version of the Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 45.2. The boat is on the hard in Deltaville, VA.

The SO 45.2 is renowned for its sailing performance as well as comfort as a live-aboard/cruising vessel.  Over its lifetime this boat has crossed the Atlantic and been cruised extensively through the Caribbean and the Eastern Seaboard. The current owners have lived aboard, with family members for extended periods over the past 4 years and can attest to its ‘liveability’. They did an extensive re-fit in 2018, soon after they bought the boat and have continued to upgrade and fix as they have used the boat.  Any work that they have done has been done to the highest standards – no short cuts taken.

The sugar-scoop transom with double doors and large cockpit, make it easy to access from the dinghy or the water and to move around or to relax.  There is extensive cockpit storage, both under the floor and in various lazarettes. Wide side decks make it easy to move forward under way, though sail handling can all be done from the cockpit.  The cockpit is well shaded, thanks to new dodger, bimini and connector installed in 2020. The arch provides support for three 100W solar panels which are ample for the electrical needs of the boat.

Accommodations

This is a 3-cabin, 2 head boat with the master stateroom in the bow.  It has a queen-sized berth which can be accessed at the foot from both sides.  The mattress base raises up on a hydraulic arm so all storage beneath can be very easily accessed.  There are storage shelves along the hulls and cabinets to port and starboard, as well as a vanity, with stool, to port. Forward head is to starboard, with separate shower that can be separated from the rest of the compartment by a rotating Perspex  door.

The salon consists of a dinette to starboard with U-shaped settee around a table that has leaves that fold over the top to create a cocktail-sized table or fold out to form a large dining table. The dinette can seat 6 comfortably and 8 at a squeeze.  At the back end of the table support are 4 drawers.  A midships bench, with a back completes the seating. The bench has storage beneath and the back has a stainless steel bar above, which serves as a handhold as well as a support for the cook while under way. Upholstery is Ultrasuede, re-covered in 2014, looks like new.

To port is a linear galley with large top & front loading fridge (freezer was converted to refrigeration), stove, sinks and plentiful storage as well as a custom cup holder on the forward bulkhead. The cabin sole is teak and holly and is in excellent condition having been re-varnished in 2014.  Around the base of the mast, starboard side of the door to the master cabin is a drinks cabinet with hinging door.

At the base of the companionway, the aft head  and access to the aft cabin which has a double berth and storage are to port.  To starboard the nav station is tucked into the corner at 45 degrees with a large chart table and ‘wrap around’ electronics and electrical display panel.  A curved seat has storage below.
