PASSAGEMAKER MAGAZINE (MARCH 2022) RATES THE GRAND BANKS 42 MOTORYACHT AS THE BEST OF THEIR TOP 11 VESSELS FOR THE GREAT LOOP.

DON’T MISS OUT ON THE BEST!

Waterlily is a rare offering of a Grand Banks 42 Motoryacht.  This vessel has been professionally maintained under current ownership, by Zimmerman Marine in Virginia, and has numerous upgrades. It presents like a much newer boat.  Side decks and foredeck are fiberglass with painted non-skid, aft deck and flybridge have teak (good condition) underfoot.  The fiberglass on the hull, decks and superstructure is in excellent condition, the teak decking is well-founded and the brightwork, on the handrails and toerails, is breathtaking.

The interior presents like a much larger boat, with clever use of space in this 3-cabin layout.  The raised aft deck creates a large aft cabin with excellent headroom and the guest quarters have an open plan feel with the Pullman-style berth to port and V-berth in the bow. The large, light salon and galley is well appointed with plenty of space for people to move around freely.

You cannot do better than buy a boat that has been actively cruised and maintained.  With twin Caterpillar 3208 (210 HP) engines, this boat moves through the water at a comfortable 8 knots.  Under current ownership, Waterlily has done numerous trips along the ICW to Florida, South Carolina & North Carolina as well as around the Chesapeake Bay.  In the summer of 2021, Waterlily and her crew adventured to Lake Champlain and New England, turning heads along the way.

Bridge clearance is 24′ with the mast up and 16′ 6″ with the mast down.  Fuel consumption is approximately 4 GPH at cruising speed.
Cruising speed is 8 knots at 1800 RPM with a top speed of 11knots.

Equipment and upgrades include:

Twin Caterpillar 3208, 210 HP engines (recent survey completed)

Westerbeke 8KW Generator

PSS shaft seals (2019)

New rudders & cutlass bearings (2021)

Reverse Cycle Aircon (3 units)

ROCNA 44lb Anchor w/ 225′ Chain

Stidd Captains chair at flybridge helm (2021)

Garmin touchscreen chartplotters at each helm (2016)

Interior

Access is either through a new, aluminum door, into the aft salon on the port side; or through a door on the starboard side at the helm.  On entering the boat, one is struck by the classic Grand Banks parquet flooring, the warm honey tones of the wood and the large windows, shedding copious amounts of light.  All side windows slide open giving good ventilation and blinds can be raised or lowered.

Aft of the port entry is a bench seat with the freezer & counter top between it and the bulkhead.  Forward is the well appointed galley with overhead cabinet, fridge, stove & microwave and plentiful storage in cabinets, drawers and in opening hatches in the dashboard.

The helm is forward, starboard with a solid teak wheel and engine controls close to hand.  Instruments & gauges can be found on the dashboard, the starboard side of the wheel and overhead.  Large windows with windshield wipers provide excellent visibility and the door allows easy access to the side deck.  A custom fold-down teak seat is mounted on a cabinet aft of the door.  The cabinet contains drawers & a cabinet with custom pull-out shelves.

The dinette is aft of the helm and has a large L-Shaped settee, removable solid teak table with leaves, and storage in table top and beneath.  Two teak stools can be used for overflow guest, allowing seating for extra guests .

The engine room and utilities are accessed through the cabin sole via a number of hinged/removable hatches.

Access to the guest cabins and head is midships,  between the galley and the helm. Three steps down to:
*large, open plan guest cabin to port, with double, Pullman berth, storage drawers and cabinets as well as hanging locker which has been converted in to a custom tool locker, full length mirror, overhead hatch; a sliding door can be closed for privacy
*the V-berth, with overhead hatch, storage beneath and lockers, port & starboard; access to the anchor locker at the foot of the berth
* head with basin, Vacuflush toilet and separate shower to starboard

The aft stateroom is in the stern with light from all-round windows and a hatch from the deck of the flybridge, for ventilation.  Queen berth with new (2021) foam mattress, storage drawers down both hulls with extensive counter tops and hanging lockers.  The head, with Vacuflush toilet & basin are forward, port and the shower compartment is forward, starboard. A TV and fan are on the port bulkhead.
