Avispa is one of two motor boats designed by legendary sailboat designer, Charles Morgan, with sea-worthiness a criteria for fishing off-shore. She is, therefore, a sailors’ motor boat and has been a much admired, perfect “Gentleman’s Launch” on the waters of the Rappahannock River and Carters Creek for the past decade. Not only is she easy on the eye, this classic is easy to handle too.
Professional yard and the owner’s care has brought her back up to original standards. For example, Avispa’s Crusader 454 engine was removed, completely rebuilt, and reinstalled in 2022. With that and her re-tuned prop, cruising speed is a good 18 knots at 3000 rpm, and her Wide Open Throttle speed is 26 knots at 4,500rpm.
With a gleaming hull, renewed canvas (top replaced in 2021) and fresh bright work, this elegant boat gives a great ride and attracts attention wherever she ventures.
