Moonstone is a rare offering of a 39ft Hans Christian Pilot House and is located in Mathews, VA. With her dark green hull, bowsprit and wooden bulwarks, she is a head-turner. The hull is (thick) solid fiberglass, she was built in the days when ‘more was better’. With full keel, canoe stern, high bulwarks, long bowsprit to increase sail area, cutter rig, this vessel is dry, sails well and is sea-kindly. The ability to steer her from the cockpit or from inside make her ideal for high latitude sailing. Her interior layout is unique and would allow a crew of 4 to live comfortably.
She is in splendid condition having had 2 major refits since 2012. The previous owner started the process from 2012 – 2014. She was trucked from California to South Carolina where she sat on the hard for some years until the current owners bought her in 2017. They completed numerous, thoughtful, upgrades between 2018 and 2020, making this a ready-to-go blue water cruiser.
The 75 HP Yanmar 4JHX-TE engine has 92 hours
The Westerbeke 5.5 KW Generator has less than 50 hours
Some upgrades (see full specifications for a full list):

If you are looking to do some serious cruising in a classic sailboat, come and see Moonstone.
The HC Pilothouse is unusual in that you step down only 1 step into the interior, so galley and salon are on almost the same level as the cockpit. Entry is through a large, traditional door which latches onto the back of the pilothouse when open. The interior wood is a light teak which has taken on a gold hue over time.
Step into the galley from the cockpit and fridge and stove are to port and the double S/S sink directly ahead. To starboard is a large work area that can be used as chart table or galley prep counter. Forward of the work area is an opening which gives access to a large cubby against the hull and the aft quarterberth which is a 3/4 bunk.
The salon consists of raised seating port and starboard. The vertical surfaces of the pilothouse is interspersed with large opening portlights, which allow good visibility from inside as well as light and ventilation. The starboard settee seats 2, the port settee is L-shaped, around the dining table. There is a copious storage beneath both settees. The floorboards of the salon and galley pull up to allow access to the engine, generator, batteries and filters.
The inside helm is forward of the port settee, with a comfortable seat, footrest and easy access to electrical panel, battery switches and engine instruments. The wheel is up against the bulkhead.
Step down 2 steps to the forward accommodation and there is another, single, quarterberth to starboard. At the base of the stairs, backing onto the steering station is a cabinet which gives access to wiring. To port is a large head with tiled walls & floor and teak floor grating. The shower, with mixer tap is to port as you enter and the head and basin against the hull.
The main cabin is forward, with double pullman berth to port. Storage under the berth and in cabinets to starboard as well as a basin & vanity starboard forward. In the bow is a storage compartment with tiled floor and walls, storage lockers lining the upper hull. The bowthruster motor is under a raised bench and access to the anchor locker through the forward bulkhead. There is a shower to starboard, which can be used to wash down gear.. or people. A large hatch overhead provides light and ventilation and a good means of moving gear.
